Salt River Project reservoir behind Horse Mesa Dam (1927), between Roosevelt and Canyon lakes on Tonto National Forest. Apache Lake Marina and Resort is the main developed access; Tonto Pass required for boating. Upper end closed to water skiing.

About Apache Lake

USFS cites strong trout and warmwater fishing at Apache Lake among painted canyon walls. Motor and non-motor boats are both allowed. Horse Mesa Dam formed the lake in 1927, five miles below Roosevelt. It is the second-largest Salt River Project lake.
