Other places to fish at Black Lake

Black River outlet (to Alverno Dam)

Boat navigation extends up the Black River outlet as far as Alverno Dam. Sturgeon and redhorse migrate up this inlet each spring, and muskies move down it to spawn after ice-out. (onxmaps.com, accessed September 25, 2026)

Burt-Mullett-Black lakes corridor

Black Lake connects to Burt Lake and Mullett Lake through this chain, spanning Cheboygan and Presque Isle counties. (blacklakeassociation.com, accessed September 25, 2026)

About Black Lake

Black Lake is famed for walleye and sturgeon on 10,113 acres, Michigan's eighth-largest inland lake. Ice spearing for sturgeon is well known. Wild walleye slipped, so MDNR and the Black Lake Association stocked 200,000 spring fingerlings per year for three years from about 2005. Surveys in 2010-2012 showed strong survival. Zebra mussels have cleared once-tannic water in recent decades.
