About Coeur d'Alene Lake
Largemouth and smallmouth bass thrive in nearshore southern waters. Northern pike hold at shallow tributary mouths. Chinook salmon stocked since 1982 now spawn on their own. Kokanee stocked since 1937 do the same. Before settlement the lake held bull trout, westslope cutthroat, and whitefish. The 27,911-acre lake drains to the Coeur d'Alene River across Benewah and Kootenai counties. A natural rock dam at Spokane Falls blocked Chinook until stocking began.
