Bureau of Reclamation reservoir on the Los Pinos River in San Juan National Forest near Bayfield. One public boat ramp with a courtesy dock by the marina. USFS Vallecito Campground has 80 sites and vault toilets, fee charged. Some shoreline restricted to artificial flies and lures.

Fishing Vallecito Reservoir
Vallecito Reservoir offers recreational fishing opportunities. It is considered a good place to fish, including ice fishing. However, river or stream fishing is restricted to artificial flies and lures because of heavy use.

What to watch for
Anglers should be aware of active alerts for high bear activity. Mountain thunderstorms and canyon winds build fast on summer afternoons, bringing lightning and whitecaps quickly. Early-season water is cold enough to cause trouble, so dress for the water. Since Vallecito is an irrigation reservoir, its level drops through summer. Watch for newly shallow spots, stumps, and rocks late in the season.
