Crooked River arm at Cove Palisades

Early-season and year-round kokanee starting area before the Metolius arm opens; look for jumpers on shallow shelves and open water near the state-park launch. (bestfishinginamerica.com, accessed September 29, 2026)

Mouth of the Deschutes arm

Another early-year kokanee search area where schools show as jumpers before Metolius access opens. (bestfishinginamerica.com, accessed September 29, 2026)

Metolius arm near Chinook Island and Perry South

Once the Metolius arm opens (seasonal; tribal permit required), fish around Chinook Island and up toward Perry South Campground for kokanee and bull trout in cold water. (bestfishinginamerica.com, accessed September 29, 2026)

Metolius deadline by the dam

A good early-season kokanee start point along the Metolius deadline near Round Butte Dam before the arm itself opens. (bestfishinginamerica.com, accessed September 29, 2026)
