The first plant of the year usually falls in the first week of March. In 2025 it was March 1, 2025, about when it usually is.

Round Pond (5.3 mi) and Lusk Reservoir (5.4 mi) were stocked more recently. Round Pond is also stocked with Brown Trout and Lusk Reservoir is also stocked with Brown Trout.

Moodna Creek supports anadromous fish species, including striped bass, which spawn in its tidal marsh estuary. Human anglers find the fish supply attractive. Bald eagles and ospreys have also been observed feeding in the Moodna's marshes.

What to watch for

The wide, rocky stream of Moodna Creek curves between steep, wooded hills. There is also effluent from the Town of New Windsor's sewage treatment plant, despite the water quality generally remaining good in that area.

According to Lee Mailler, by 1965, the Moodna was heavily polluted, with water seen running "green, pink, cream and blue" and usually looking "like curdled milk."
