DWR lists two free Rockbridge County shoreline access points on the Maury: near the Route 60 bridge west of Buena Vista, and at Locker Landing in Glasgow. DWR's Little North Mountain WMA also has a footbridge to bank-fishing trails in Goshen Pass, a put-and-take trout stretch.

Fishing Maury River
The Maury River is enjoyed by residents and visitors for fishing. It is part of the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources' "put-n-take" trout program, providing excellent trout fishing during certain times of the year. Anglers can also consider smallmouth and rock bass. The river is largely wide and shallow, typically less than three feet deep with occasional deep holes, and offers Class I and II rapids in its lower section for float trips.

What to watch for
The Maury River has a history of destructive floods, and its upper portion includes class II, III and IV rapids. The area around the river, particularly within the Little North Mountain WMA at its southern boundary, features rugged terrain with steep to moderate slopes.
