How Lake Moraine is stocked

The first plant of the year usually falls in the first week of September. In 2023 it was August 1, 2023, earlier than usual.

No plants recorded in 2016 and 2021.

Payne Brook (5 mi), Lebanon Reservoir (5.6 mi), Eaton Reservoir (9.1 mi), and Sangerfield River (9.4 mi) were stocked more recently.

Fishing Lake Moraine

Lake Moraine, also known as Madison Reservoir, provides fishing opportunities for a variety of species, including largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and walleye. The reservoir is well known for producing large chain pickerel, some reaching up to 24 inches. The NYSDEC stocks Lake Moraine yearly with approximately 780 tiger musky. Anglers can access the lake via a state-owned concrete ramp and carry-down boat launch.

Eurasian watermilfoil is present in the reservoir, which the Lake Moraine Association is attempting to control naturally.

According to the Lake Moraine Association, they have started an experimental walleye fingerling stocking in the reservoir. This stocking is in an attempt to reduce the number of panfish, which they believe will increase aquatic invertebrates that feed on Eurasian watermilfoil, helping to control the watermilfoil naturally.
