Fishing Devils Lake

Devils Lake, a 374-acre lake in Sauk County, offers recreational fishing from the lakeshore and boats. Anglers can target naturally occurring bass and panfish, alongside walleye, northern pike, and trout which are stocked by the Wisconsin DNR. The lake provides two public boat launches for access, and its water is moderately clear. Many visitors also report using the Tumbled Rocks Trail to find spots for fishing.

What to watch for

Only electric-powered motors are allowed on Devils Lake boats. Swimmer's itch is a common problem, especially in summer, caused by a flatworm parasite hosted by snails. Blue-green algae blooms have been reported; the park advises visitors to stay alert for discolored water or floating scum. While the lake freezes in winter, ice thickness is unmeasured, which poses a potential hazard.
